Hotel Industry Background
As seniors, since we now have the time, one of our favorite things to do is to travel.
(Actually, that applies to almost all of us. But anyway…)
If you are a senior, chances are good that you’re living on a fixed income. According to the latest data from the Social Security Administration, more than 50 percent of seniors aged 65 and above rely on Social Security for more than half of their monthly income.
Life on the road was cushy for those who traveled in their careers. Companies paid for the hotels travelers would stay in and, if their travel policy was lenient, premium and maybe even luxury hotels were the standard.
Well, now it’s our money, and we’re living on cash we can never get back. So what are your expectations when you travel? If you’ve been a Ritz-Carlton traveler, you might need to temper that. You don’t want to be penniless at 95 because you lived an excessive lifestyle in retirement.
Air used to be the most expensive component of a vacation. Now, hotels consume the largest portion of your travel budget. (Rental cars also command a bigger piece of the pie because the fleets were reduced during Covid.)
