We’re well into October now, and depending on where you live, you may have ripped out your garden already. Maybe you let it stand as it is, letting the dead vegetation seep into the soil to provide a bit of extra compost for spring planting. You could be one of the fortunate ones, with your flowers still growing and your vegetables still producing.

I live in Albuquerque, and while we’ve yet to have a frost or freeze, nighttime lows in the 30s and 20s are not far away. We got close last week, so I brought in all of my favorite container plants, just in case. The lantana was in perfect bloom! But they’re back outside now, for the time being.

Gardening can be tricky here. The elevation ranges from a low of 4,900 feet near the Rio Grande (“The Valley”) to 6,700 (“The Heights”). So depending on where you live, you could be in Zone 7A or 7B. Rain and snow throughout the area is very erratic.

So how was the growing season where you live? Was it better or worse than 2020? (Of course, what could be worse than 2020!) Any tips you’d like to share? Please leave any that you have by responding to this article. This is meant to be an interactive piece. I could use some help!
