I Call Bullshit, Medium!

While scrolling through my “For You” selections of the day a few nights ago, I came across eight stories in the first thirty listings by the same author.

Does this person know someone at Medium?

Is there something you’re not telling us? That wouldn’t be news.

This person does not write for a publication.

So how the hell are they getting at least eight stories in the “For You” selection?

Thousands of writers would die to have just one story included under “For You.”

I can’t say this person has as many claps as most other stories in this category. Most are in the thousands — probably stories that got boosted and saw massive distribution. This author’s stories usually have less than 500 claps.

I see this repeatedly: the same writers score big wins because they get distribution by being boosted or winning a popularity contest.

I could unfollow this writer. But I’m not even sure I’m following this person. Because there’s no search function in the “Followers” section (another downfall), you must go through your entire list of who you’re following to find out. And who has that kind of time?
