I love this story because it's so relatable! I've been a Route 66 geek since the days when we actually used it to get from SoCal to Flagstaff, where we'd then turn off and go north. I've been on most of the driveable parts, though not at the same time. My favorite piece was that tiny slice of Kansas! And now, I live just a mile south of Route 66 in Albuquerque. It's really cool.
