I'm not the target audience of your story (GWM), but it was so familiar. I recently did the same thing (and more), but purchased all of my gear online, and for the first time went camping by myself in Utah. It was early in June near Lake Powell during a heat wave, and there were barely any other campers. (And that IS snake country!) Can't wait to go again!
