Stop Going Down the Rabbit Hole
Seriously!
The metaphor, “going down the rabbit hole,” is oftentimes meant as spending a lot of time on an activity or project, perhaps more than you had intended. Getting sucked into something. (Kind of like I got sucked into Quora today, wasting two whole hours!)
I’m in another one now, as a story I’ve been working on really needs to be split into three. To me, it’s a clusterfuck, which is what many probably want to say. But a rabbit hole is more palatable.
Because of my clusterfuck (yeah, I know, not palatable), I’m not churning out any work. But it didn’t take long to come up with something I could whip up fast. If these other people on Medium say they can write and publish three stories in a day, surely I can manage one.
This morning, as I usually do, I read as much as possible. Nearly four hours in all, you could say I went down a rabbit hole. I don’t call it that, but I came across its use three times on Medium in that time. That’s when I said to myself, “enough is enough”!
