This is not your father’s Oldsmobile — this is 2024

Age is easily spotted in cars. Car fanatics abound, preserving their beauty from days gone by. They don’t make them like that anymore.

Senior citizens are often revered, like fine old cars. Think about your relationship with your grandparents, for instance. They were the patriarchs and matriarchs of our families, and as such, they earned a modicum of respect.

Cars can be refurbished. People can’t.

Baby boomers are seniors, too. We’ve been turning 65 since 2011. More babies were born in 1957 than in any other year in that generation. In 2029, we will all be older than 65. If you attend your high school reunions, you realize how many of us are already gone.

However, the younger generations make a distinction between seniors and baby boomers. Spoiler alert: There are more millennials than boomers, and we boomers are entering the twilight of our lives. We are constantly blamed for all of their ills. We don’t get any respect!

I still find it difficult to comprehend that I’m a senior. Boomers thought we’d be young and vital forever.

Seniors are old and crotchety and weathered and often sick.
