You’re Not Doing Well On Medium Because All You Ever Write About Is ‘Medium’

Hey, I’m not doing well either, but I don’t write about it

What do you see when you look at that picture? Brown grass, blue sky, and a cloud.

Please don’t read any more into it. It’s just what it says it is. Being not far from there, I know that it’s bland, though a writer like Willa Cather could write three paragraphs about it.

I’m trying to draw a parallel to the writing on Medium. We’re so focused on bitching that we’re forgetting that we’re trying to entertain and inform our audience.

When I first started reading Medium, well before I started writing, I read about things. All kinds of interesting things. I considered it as a magazine to which I subscribed.

I don’t recall reading about Medium when I first subscribed. Maybe a bit about writing, but it was the excellent content and articles on various subjects that I enjoyed the most.

As a result, I’ve whittled the number of print magazines I subscribe to from nine to two. Online content seems fresher.

Don’t get me wrong. There is still plenty of amazing reading to be discovered on Medium.
